I had planned on going to the grocery store straight from class Friday afternoon but realized I forgot my cloth bags. Usually I would have gone straight to the store regardless just because I had a long day going from class to work back to night class. But I really have been trying to live more consciously and did drive the extra mile to stop by my house to pick up bags.

That is awesome, Erla! Our challenge is to work against the inertia of life's pressures to live with integrity based on our values and what we know. Nobody was watching you when you made this choice! Proud of you.

This past week my roommates and I participated in an unintentional eco-challenge. Our dryer has been broken since last Monday and the new dryer doesn't come in until tomorrow. Everyone in the house has been air drying all their clothes, significantly decreasing our electricity usage. Air drying laundry is something I grew up watching my mom do whenever she had the chance (Chicago weather permitting). Our dryer being broken reminded me of this simple task working towards a more sustainable life and I purchased a clothes drying rack from Target!

I love this! I do this now after being in Italy the past semester where we didn't even have a dryer in our apartment.

Today I got to work about an hour early and decided to park my car down the road near La Jolla Cove. It was a nice hour of relaxing time away from my phone (except for when I had it out to take these photos) enjoying the beautiful place we live in and the nature around us.

I've started eating breakfast most mornings this month outside in our sun room. I eventually combined two eco challenges of eating outside and eating away from distractions of electronics into my breakfast time. I've been allowing myself a longer time for breakfast because it has become such a peaceful enjoyable part of my day!

This sounds like a very peaceful way to wake up in the morning. It does seem like those two challenges could easily go hand-in-hand.

My roommates have become very supportive of these ecochallenges, which makes it much easier for me seeing as some of the challenges effect the home I'm living in. It was a fun roomie activity replacing all the light bulbs in our house to LED lights last night. We have a significant amount of lights in our house so it did take a bit of time. But doing it all together was a bonding experience. It also initiated conversation on how we can make efforts as a house to be more eco-friendly. Our electricity bill with 7 roommates has been getting fairly high, after changing the light bulbs everyone has agreed to make a conscious effort turning off lights when leaving a room. It will be interesting to see if our electricity bill for next month is any lower.

That is awesome, Erla. I'm excited that your efforts are being noticed by your roomies!
