I picked this challenge because I had gotten into the habit of leaving my fan on basically 24/7 and will also occasionally forgot to turn my lights in my room off. This challenge went well for me and I was more aware of making sure my fan and lights were off before I left my room each time. I also encouraged some of my friends to turn their lights off when they were not in their room. Overall, this challenge seems like a simple thing, but it for sure helped me make sure appliances are off when they aren't needed and I will continue to do this.

I definitely struggled with this as well for a long time, but it got a lot easier to remember to turn off my fan (which I also used to leave on 24/7) and turn the lights off once I moved off campus and had to start paying for all those things.  One of my roommates constantly leaves lights on and her fan on when the aren't being used.  She offered to pay more in utilities for her excessive use, but I had to have a talk with her that its not just about the money and that is it a big waste of energy! While I was initially motivated by keep costs down I see the value in keeping my energy use a low as possible for the environment and I wish she would see the value in it too!

This is interesting to think about and I will have to keep this in mind for this summer when I am living off campus in an apartment to save money. Its crazy the amount of money and energy students waste for simply not turning off their lights when it is such an easy task. If students can start to make changes in their daily lives it can go a long way in helping the environment.

I engaged in the same task for majority of this year because of living off-campus and paying for my electric and heating. It definitely makes you more aware to turn off and unplug things that you don't need/aren't being used and is a great way to help the environment as well.
